2011 Ferrari P4/5 Competizione with Suspension Engine Rebates and Review

Friday, March 18, 2011

In effort to focus our attention to supercars and vehicles that are out of this world, we wanted to find something that was really bonkers. Naturally, the home of crazy things is usually Japan, but there cars seem to be getting duller by the second. So, we turned to that other crazy, wine loving country; Italy.

After searching high and low, we have found our vehicle, the Ferrari P4/5 Competizione. This is a machine that does not yet exist, but that won’t stop us from trying our best to find all the information we can about this gorgeous looking road rocket.

The only images we currently have of the Ferrari P4/5 Competizione are renderings, but those are good enough for now, as this supercar certainly looks good in that form. We’ve never heard anybody say that Ferrari can’t create something that looks like speed in motion.

Exterior and Interior Details

While there aren’t any interior details as of yet, we can imagine that it’s going to be quite sparse. This is a racing car of sorts so don’t expect leather seats and all the luxurious amenities that come in certain sports cars. We think the Ferrari P4/5 Competizione will have racing seats with harnesses and a technologically laden gauge cluster. Air conditioning probably won’t be included and the same can be said of a navigation system. As for an interior color choice, black will be everywhere.
The exterior of the Ferrari is pure racing car. It will sit very low to ground and feature a massive silver rear spoiler for optimum downforce. The car’s creator, Jim Glickenhaus, chose to base the Competizione model on the combination of the F430 underpinnings, using the 430 Scuderia’s chassis and the F430 GT2’s drivetrain to keep it up to speed with the competition.
The front fascia features a square air intake with triangular headlights. A massive black front lip spoiler wraps around the vehicle, running all the way back to the wheel arches. The rear of the car is classic F40, with a black mesh looking rear and two massive exhaust outlets. There is a huge rear diffuser that looks as if it came from one of Ferrari’s Formula One cars.
Other exterior features include aerodynamic kits, air intakes on the hood, doors and rear of the car, and a fighter jet looking black glass cockpit, though we imagine the actual car’s windows won’t be that dark for safety reasons.

Under The Hood/Performance

The Ferrari P4/5 Competizione is being built on a Ferrari 430 Scuderia base and will feature the suspension and V-8 drivetrain of an F430 GT2 ALMS racing car. That V8 motor is a custom-built Ferrari F136 DOHC V8 engine at 90 degrees with 32-valve and 4-valves per cylinder. It puts out 483 horsepower and 343 pound-feet of torque.
The suspension is double wishbones in the front and rear with central wheel mounts, and stabilizers in the front and rear shocks. There will be absorbers with adjustable drag and tow, as well as power steering.
The brakes on the F430 GT2 are Brembo steel discs with a diameter of 380x32mm in the front and 332x32mm in the rear. There are 6 pistons on the front brakes and 4 pistons on the rear calipers. Drivers can adjust brake balance as well.
This information is based on what we know about the Ferrari F430 GT2, but we have heard that the new P4/5 Competizione will be using the same motor and suspension setup, so the information is transferable.

When Will It Be Out

4.
The team hopes that it can finish the build in time to make preparations for the 24 Hours of Nurburgring on June 25, 2011. The driver teams include: Nicola Larini, Mika Salo, Luca Cappellari, and Fabrizio Giovanardi.

The Competition

The Ferrari P4/5 Competizione will be competing against other 24 hour vehicles, such as race ready BMW, Audi, and Porsche vehicles. Last year, BMW came on top with their M3 GT2.
Other vehicles include the Ford GT, Nissan Z33, Volkswagen Scirocco GT24, and a BMW Z4 GT3. Needless to say, the new Ferrari will have some serious competition next year in Germany.
