Audi has released details of the new, all-electric Audi A3 e-tron concept, a vehicle that will hit the market sometime in the near future. The electric car is based on the 2011 Audi A3 Sportback.

The Audi A3 e-tron uses a 26.5kWh lithium ion battery pack which is stored at the rear and in the middle of the car, under the body. Since the batteries have been placed in a spread-out manner, boot space remains reasonably large at 265 litres.

Supplying power to the front wheels, the combination is rated at around 100kW and offers 270Nm of torque. Acceleration from 0-100km/h can be achieved in 11.2 seconds while its top speed is said to be 140km/h.

Audi says the Audi A3 e-tron has a range of about 140km, depending on the driving conditions, while battery recharge times vary according to the power outlet. With a 400-volt rapid charger, the Audi A3 e-tron can be fully recharged in around four hours. Using a standard 230-volt charger it takes around nine hours.
